This privacy notice tells you what to expect me to do with your personal information when you contact me or become a client.

I am Jinny, a UKCP-registered psychotherapist practising as Therapy with Jinny. I offer individual therapy to adults and I process personal and health information specifically for the purpose of providing psychotherapy services. I am the data controller for all personal information you share with me.

What information I collect and why

I collect the following information in order to provide therapy services:

  • Name and contact details (email, phone number)

  • Address

  • GP details

  • Session notes and records of our work together

  • Payment information (amounts and dates; not full card or bank details)

 

I also collect the following special category information, which is subject to additional legal protection due to its sensitive nature:

  • Health information relevant to your therapy

  • Racial or ethnic origin, where relevant to your therapeutic work

 

How I collect your information

I collect personal information:

  • Directly from you, through email, phone, my website contact form, and intake forms

  • From healthcare providers, where relevant to your care

 

Lawful bases for processing

Under UK data protection law, I must have a lawful basis for collecting and using your personal information. My lawful bases are:

  • Contract: to enter into and carry out our therapy agreement

  • Vital interests: where there is an urgent or serious risk to your physical or mental health or the safety of others

  • Consent: where I have your permission after giving you relevant information. You have the right to withdraw consent at any time.

For special category data (health information), I process this on the basis of providing health care services and, where relevant, for safeguarding purposes.

 

Your data protection rights

You have the following rights under UK data protection law:

  • Right of access: to request copies of the personal information I hold about you

  • Right to rectification: to ask me to correct or delete inaccurate or incomplete information

  • Right to erasure: to ask me to delete your personal information (subject to my professional obligations to retain clinical records)

  • Right to restriction of processing: to ask me to limit how I use your information

  • Right to object to processing

  • Right to data portability: to ask that I transfer your information to another organisation or to you

  • Right to withdraw consent: where consent is my lawful basis, you may withdraw it at any time

I must respond to any request without undue delay and within one month. To make a request, contact me using the details at the top of this notice.

 

Third-party services

I use the following third-party services which may process your personal data:

  • PayPal: for processing payments. See paypal.com/privacy for their privacy policy.

  • Zoom: for online therapy sessions. See zoom.us/privacy for their privacy policy.

I am not responsible for how these services handle your data and encourage you to review their policies.

 

Who I share your information with

I do not sell or share your personal data for marketing purposes. I may share limited information in the following circumstances:

  • Clinical supervisor: I discuss client work with my supervisor as required by UKCP. I use the minimum information necessary.

  • Healthcare providers: where relevant to your care or in the event of a safeguarding concern

  • Professional consultants: such as legal or insurance advisers, where necessary

 

How long I keep your information

I retain client records for 7 years after the end of our therapeutic relationship, in line with UKCP guidance. Records are then securely deleted or destroyed.

How to make a data protection complaint

If you have any concerns about how I use your personal information, please raise it with me directly in the first instance:

I will acknowledge your complaint within 30 days and will investigate it without undue delay. I will keep you updated and inform you of the outcome.

I may update this privacy notice from time to time. The current version will always be available at therapywithjinny.com/privacy-policy. Where changes are significant, I will notify active clients directly.
